Why Psychotherapy?

While counselling and psychotherapy can overlap to some extent, in general psychotherapy deals with painful problems that have their roots in the past.

It takes a skilful and experienced therapist to help the client to identify the pieces of the jigsaw to build the insight and self-understanding needed to resolve these issues. Thus a longer term approach is needed.

Psychotherapy may be engaged in for the type of issues listed below, for example.

At the initial session the treatment options will be discussed in relation to the issue and the wishes of the client.

Psychotherapy is most appropriate to achieve the goals of:

  • Positive personal development
  • Raising low self-esteem
  • Solving identity problems
  • Changing negative patterns of behaviour.
